Cottage pie
- 300g minced beef
- 1 red onion, chopped really fine
- 2 cloves of garlic, chopped really fine
- 1 large really ripe tomato, chopped
- salt
- pepper
- oil
- 3 large potatoes
- splash of milk
- bit of butter
- gently fry the chopped onions and garlic until golden brown
- add the meat and fry until meat is browned
- add the chopped tomato, season and cook for about 10 minutes, add a little water if necessary
- meanwhile peel and cut potatoes, cook in salted water for about 18 minutes
- strain, mash with the butter and a splash (or three) of milk until you get a lovely creamy texture
- put the meat mixture into an ovenproof dish
- cover with the mashed potato, use a fork to make swirly patterns, add a few small knobs of butter
- put in the oven and cook until the potato goes golden brown (15 mins more or less)
- serve with peas or broccoli
